The survey is part of development work aimed at promoting the reuse of five properties located in Kajaani. The survey will be open until 18 June 2026.

Promoting the circular economy and energy efficiency of the buildings (RAKA) project, implemented by Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, focuses on addressing the challenges of underused and vacant properties owned by the City of Kajaani, Kiinteistö Oy Kajaanin Pietari, and Kajaani Technology Centre Ltd.

– Our goal is not only to extend the lifecycle of the properties but also to improve expertise in energy efficiency. Vacant spaces are a nationwide challenge, which makes the RAKA project highly topical, says Silja Keränen, Project Manager at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.

During the project, special attention is given to the development of five properties: the main health centre on Satamakatu and its surrounding buildings, the “Kekkostalo” on Kalliokatu, the former vocational school building at Asemakatu 2, the student dormitory Oppi 3, and Nuaskatu 7, which previously housed the Maitohammas daycare centre.

What kind of spaces and services are needed in Kajaani?

Ideas and wishes from Kajaani residents and users of Kajaani’s services for the reuse of vacant and underused properties are being collected through the survey. The responses will help guide future development work and bring new life to these buildings.

– We want to hear ideas on how the spaces could be used – and of course, we hope to see some of them come to life in the future. By responding to the survey, you can make your ideas and wishes heard, says Arja Kemppainen Project Engineer at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.

The survey can be answered

Among all respondents, three bakery gift cards will be raffled. The survey is open until 18 June 2026.

The RAKA project (Promoting the circular economy and energy efficiency of the buildings) is co-funded by the European Union (ERDF).
