Applying for Bachelor´s Degrees

Starting from 1 Jan 2025, applicants from outside the EU, EEA or Switzerland are required to pay an application fee in order to apply to higher education studies. The Finnish National Agency for Education will collect the application fee in connection with filling in the Studyinfo application form. If you are from outside the aforementioned area and you are applying to Bachelor’s or Master’s level studies in Finland, you will need to pay the application fee. The application fee is 100 euros. This application fee covers all applications to studies starting in the same academic term. The application fee does not guarantee that you will be offered admission to studies.

In most cases, you are eligible to apply for Bachelor’s level studies in Finland if you are eligible to apply for higher education in your home country.

Eligible applicants for degree studies at universities of applied sciences have completed at least one of the following:

• the studies required for graduating from the Finnish upper secondary school or a Matriculation Examination;
• an International Baccalaureate (IB) degree and/or graduated from IB high school (IB Diploma Results/IB Certificate);
• a European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma;
• a Reifeprüfung (RP) or Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) degree;
• a Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification covering 120 credits or 180 competence points or a corresponding earlier Finnish vocational degree covering at least 80 credits;
• a Finnish post-secondary or higher vocational level diploma;
• a Finnish vocational upper secondary qualification or a further or specialist vocational qualification as a competence-based qualification, or a corresponding previous qualification;
• a foreign qualification that provides eligibility for higher education studies in that country;
• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree.

Depending on the higher education institution, you can also be eligible if you hold an Advanced International Certificate of Education degree (AICE) in Finland, have the right to study towards a university degree in Finland, or hold a degree granted by a Finnish higher education institution or at least a Bachelor level degree granted by a foreign institution.

In order to prove their eligibility, applicants with a non-Finnish qualification certificate must attach a copy of the final certificate to their online application at Study Info by the given date. In addition, official translations of the documents must be provided if the original document is not awarded in Finnish, Swedish or English.

The applicants finishing secondary school in the summer, can apply with their temporary certificates. In this case the required document to be downloaded on the application form is the latest transcript of records (list of courses and grades) from your current school. The final graduation documents (scanned copies) must be submitted to KAMK Admissions in connection to accepting the study place.

The admission is conditional until the original school certificates have been checked in the beginning of the studies.

Applicants are required to have good oral and written skills in English. To be selected by the International UAS Exam, the applicants have to prove their English language skills either by an internationally recognized language test or previous studies. Please check the approved documents at UASinfo.fi.

Always check specific admission criteria directly on the description of the study programme.

Please note that if you are under 18 years old when you start the studies in Finland, you are legally a minor and you can’t for example make a rental agreement for accommodation, electricity contract or open a bank account by yourself. Therefore, life in Finland as a minor student without parents can be very challenging.

Education completed outside Finland
Applicants, who have completed a qualification outside Finland, must attach the following documents to their online application in Studyinfo.fi by the given date.

• A copy of the final secondary school certificate or equivalent
  Only final certificates awarded by national and regional bodies granting educational certificates will be accepted. Therefore, various other documents such as “Result slips”, “Testimonials”, “Statements of Results”, “Examination Results” are not considered as official certificates.
• A copy of an official Finnish, Swedish or English translation of the certificate must be provided, if the certificate is not written in one of these languages. The translation must have the translator’s signature and stamp.

The applicants graduating in summer following the application period, are requested to submit the copy of the transcript of records (and official translation) to the online application form by the given date. The copies of the final certificates will be submitted upon confirmation of acceptance.

Education completed in Finland
You must submit copies of your certificates by the given date

• if you have taken the Finnish matriculation examination prior to 1990
• if you are completing an IB-examination in a Finnish upper secondary school
• if you are completing a Reifeprüfung-examination or
•  if you are completing an EB-examination, you must submit a copy of your temporary certificate to the Admission Services of the UAS of your first choice by the given date. The copies of the final certificates will be submitted upon confirmation of acceptance.

Identification documents
The following documents are accepted as proof of identity:

• Passport (preferred option, can be either biometric or non-biometric)
• Biometric EU/EEA identity card (must have a biometric symbol)
• No other forms of identification documents are accepted. For example, residence permit cards or non-biometric EU/EAA identity cards will not be accepted.

The applicants have to prove their English language skills either by an internationally recognized language test or previous studies.

An applicant can apply for individual arrangements for Joint Application entrance examination (e.g. additional time, technical aid, or other special arrangement) due to an injury, illness, reading disability, or other special reason.

If applicants due to their state of health or learning difficulties require special arrangements as regards the entrance examination, they must request such arrangements in writing at the very latest immediately they receive the invitation to sit the entrance exam. Applicants must submit the request to the admissions office of the University of Applied Sciences that sent the entrance exam invitation. A statement written by a doctor or other expert concerning the applicant’s form of disability or illness must be enclosed with the written request. Kajaani University of Applied Sciences will inform the applicant of the special arrangements that will be made on his/her behalf.

Application and required certificates for the individual arrangements in autumn 2026 joint application must be sent by email to KAMK Admissions Services by 17 September 2026 at 3 pm. Requests after that will not be handled.

Application and required certificates for the individual arrangements in spring 2027 joint application must be sent by email to KAMK Admissions Services by 28 January 2027 at 3 pm. Requests after that will not be handled.

Joint application for studies starting in autumn 2027 takes place on 7 – 21 January 2027.

Selection methods:

International UAS Exam

The International UAS Exam is a joint digital entrance exam of the Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS), used for selecting students to study programmes leading to a bachelor’s degree and conducted in English. The entrance exam is completed by the applicant’s own computer remotely online.

The International UAS Exam is organised on 23 March 2027 from 12:00 o’clock noon onwards (Finnish time, UTC/GMT+2). 

In the International UAS Exam, the applicants’ readiness for UAS studies is assessed. The exam does not include any advance reading materials or pre-assignments.

All applicants of the University of Applied Sciences’ Bachelor’s programmes, including native speakers of English, must demonstrate their English language proficiency. Details on the accepted methods for proving language proficiency are available on this site. Be sure to review the requirements carefully.

SAT test

The SAT test contains following sections:

1. Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
   • Reading Test
   • Writing and Language Test
2. Math

The minimum required scores are:
400 from Evidence-based Reading and Writing
400 from Mathematics

SAT designated code for KAMK is 7787.

Only the new version of SAT test (completed after March 2016) is accepted.
SAT test results must be submitted by 29 March 2027.

Certificate-based student selection

Finnish Matriculation Examination, International Baccalaureate (IB) degree, European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma or Reifeprüfung (RP)/Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA) Diploma completed in Finland.

One of the following grades in the Finnish Matriculation Examination, European Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate, or Reifeprüfung/DIA:

• Finnish Matriculation Examination: English advanced syllabus with a minimum grade C
• The whole International Baccalaureate diploma or International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP) completed in English
• DP Course Results or IB certificate or IB Final Report completed in English
• International Baccalaureate final examination: English A HL/SL or English B HL/SL with a minimum grade 4
• European Baccalaureate: at least grade 6.00 in L2-level English
• Reifeprüfung/DIA diploma (completed in Finland): at least grade 7 in advanced English

Following study programmes (KAMK Bachelor´s Degrees) have each their own entrance exam and don´t use UAS Exam:

The entrance exam for:

Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism, blended studies, Helsinki

• Entrance examination in Helsinki capital region, Finland (written exam and interview)
• Certificate-based selection (Finnish Matriculation Examination, International Baccalaureate (IB) degree, European Baccalaureate (EB) Diploma or Reifeprüfung (RP)/Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA) degree completed in Finland). Minimum requirement: Advanced English C

The entrance exam consists of a written part and an interview.

1. Written exam: The written part consists of three parts. Maximum 30 points
2. Interview: Maximum 20 points

Rolling admission offers a new way to apply for degree studies at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.

The application period on Studyinfo.fi is open from 27 August 2026. Application period ends when the study places are filled or on 10 December 2026 at the latest. Studies will begin in August 2027.

Selection methods:

Rolling admission is based on certificate-based selection or SAT test.

For Bachelor’s programmes, applicants will also participate in an interview, if they don´t have the required English language certificate. If an applicant applies with the SAT test, the interview is not required.
For Bachelor´s Degree in Sports Coaching and Business Management applicants must complete a video task. If an applicant applies Sports degree with SAT test score, the video task is not required.
For Master’s programmes, all applicants must complete a video task.

In addition, all applicants must provide an acceptable English language certificate. If an applicant applies to a Bachelor’s programme with an SAT test score, they are not required to provide proof of English language proficiency.
