Tuition fees are charged from citizens of a country outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland and they are based on the student’s study right and attendance. The tuition fee must be paid for all semesters and academic years for which the student has registered as present/attending, including any extension periods. The tuition fee is paid also for the periods the student is on exchange or practical training (ie. registered as present/attending).
For EU/EEA/Swiss citizens, there is no tuition fee. Finnish citizens are exempt from providing proof of citizenship, while other EU/EEA/Swiss citizens should submit a copy of their passport/identity card when applying to admissions(at)kamk.fi. Read more about who is obliged to pay the tuition fees FAQ about applying to higher education – Studyinfo (opintopolku.fi)
If a student later receives a permit that can be used as a waiver for the tuition fee, a copy should be submitted to the Study Services by 31 July (for autumn semester payment) or 30 November (for spring semester payment).
The tuition fee remains the same throughout the studies.
KAMK uses Flywire to receive payments from international students worldwide.
New students pay the tuition fee at the time of confirming the study place. The fee must be paid at once and cannot be paid in installments. The tuition fee is paid in full even though the student enrolls as non-attending (absent) for the first year.
The tuition fee for second and following academic years is paid per semester. It is not possible to pay the tuition fee in installments. The attendance enrollment for continuing students in PAKKI will be made by the Study Services after the tuition fee is paid in Flywire.
Tuition fee for the autumn semester is paid latest by 15 August
Tuition fee for the spring semester is paid latest by 15 December
If the student does not pay the tuition fee within the given deadlines, they will lose the study right. This means that the student will no longer be able to access their KAMK account, enroll or participate in courses or gain any credits. The study right can be restored by submitting an application to restore the study right and paying the handling fee of 50 euros in addition to the tuition fee. The study right can be restored if the student has an existing study right and they have realistic chances to graduate within the remaining study right.
Please note, that KAMK will not send a separate confirmation when we have received your payment. You can download the official receipt of the payment transaction directly from Flywire.

The scholarship based on Finnish language
It is possible to apply for a scholarship based on a Finnish language level test completed during the studies. The accepted test is the National certificate of language proficiency (YKI), intermediate level or higher. In case the student has passed the test earlier, the student must pass a higher level to be eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship is worth 3 000 euros and it is directly used to reduce the tuition fee. The student can only receive the scholarship based on Finnish language once during their studies.
The scholarship based on the Finnish language skills must be applied separately at the same time with paying the tuition fee (1 – 15 August / 1 – 15 December). The YKI certificate must be attached to the application.

The scholarship is available after the first year of studies and the student can receive the scholarship 3 times, on condition that each time they take a test of a higher level. The scholarship cannot therefore be awarded on the basis of a lower level test.
The amount of the scholarship depends on the level of the completed language test (YKI).
Basic level: 500 euros (proficiency level 1 and 2)
Intermediate level: 1 000 euros (proficiency level 3 and 4)
Advanced level: 1 500 euros (proficiency level 5 and 6)
The scholarship based on the Finnish language skills must be applied separately at the same time with paying the tuition fee (1 – 15 August / 1 – 15 December). The YKI certificate and the test assessment scale must be attached to the application. Late applications will be considered for the following year’s tuition fee. If a student no longer has tuition fees to be paid, they are not eligible to receive the scholarship.

Tuition fees are refunded only if a residence permit is denied or not granted within the first two semesters after the start of the study right. After the first two semesters, the Student is not entitled to a refund.
The refund of tuition fees is subject to the following conditions:
the Student has started the application process for a residence permit within 14 days of being granted a study place
the Student has paid the tuition fee in accordance with the guidelines,
the applicant has not withdrawn their residence permit application or interfered with the process (e.g., by knowingly providing false information), leading to a negative decision or suspension by the Immigration Service, and
the Student has applied for a refund of the tuition fee by the deadline by the last day of their first two semesters (31.7. or 31.12.).
Students must apply for a tuition fee refund by sending a written application by e-mail to studyservices(at)kamk.fi within the stated deadline, attaching a negative residence permit decision from MIGRI or, if still pending, other supporting documents (e.g., EnterFinland confirmation, embassy appointment, waiting list confirmation). Refund decisions are based on the application.
The tuition fee will not be refunded for the semesters the Student has been offered online or remote studies. Students studying in part-time or fully online degree programmes are not eligible for a refund of tuition fees. If the degree does not offer online studies, a refund is possible from the whole academic year.
If the Student obtains a residence permit after the refund and wishes to continue their studies at KAMK, they will have to pay the remaining tuition fee and apply for restoring the study rights.
The paid tuition fee will not be refunded if the Student has obtained a residence permit and decides to resign from their studies.
A processing fee of 250 EUR will be deducted from the refunded tuition fee.
If a Student has paid too much tuition fee, the excess amount will be refunded in full to the Student’s Finnish bank account without a handling fee. The payment will not be refunded to a foreign bank account. If the excess amount is small, less than €30, it will not be refunded.
In addition to the tuition fee, the students must pay for their study materials and their own living costs. The average monthly living expenses for a student living in Finland are approximately 800 – 1000 euros. This may vary depending on personal circumstances.
Finding a job in Finland can be difficult and time-consuming if you do not speak Finnish. Do not count on finding a job immediately but be prepared to support yourself throughout the studies without working.
When applying for a residence permit in Finland, non-EU/EEA nationals need to apply for residence permit to Finland and prove in their application that they have sufficient financial resources for living in Finland.
There is no tuition fee for citizens of Finland, the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) countries, or citizens of Switzerland.
Non-EU/EEA students can be exempted from the tuition fee, if they have one of the following conditions:
The fee is not charged if the student studies in a degree programme taught in Finnish language. Neither is the fee charged for persons who, under the Aliens Act:
have a European Union Blue Card
have a permanent residence permit
have a continuous residence permit for purposes other than studies*
have a long-term resident’s European Union residence permit issued to third-country nationals
have an EU Family Member’s Residence Card in Finland.
*Please note that in the following cases the tuition fee is charged:
If your first residence permit in Finland was granted for the purpose of studying, you are required to pay tuition fees, even if you later obtained a continuous residence permit (type A) on other grounds.
If you have a continuous residence permit (type A) based on family ties, and your family member originally came to Finland on a residence permit granted for studying, you are also required to pay tuition fees.
However, if your continuous residence permit (type A) is based on family ties in Finland, and your family member is a Finnish citizen or is staying in Finland with a permanent residence permit, you will be exempted from tuition fees.
The Study Services determines the student’s tuition fee obligations based on the law. Please contact the Study Services (studyservices(at)kamk.fi) if you have documentation that you are exempted from the tuition fee or have any other questions regarding the tuition fee payments.
