Project description
The project aims to enhance the guidance and teaching skills of personnel within the operational area by focusing on three main objectives:
– Improving Guidance Competence: Supporting the development of young people’s future horizons, understanding of skills, and strengths.
– Anticipating Regional Skill Needs: Enhancing the ability to identify and predict regional skill requirements and labor market opportunities, including long-term forecasts.
– Promoting Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Fostering cooperation between educational institutions, guidance organizations, and the business sector.
A key innovation of the project is integrating these elements into secondary education curricula. In high schools, the project activities relate to broad competencies, particularly well-being, societal understanding, and strong work-life skills. In vocational schools, the project connects to career planning, well-being promotion, and lifelong learning key skills.
The project will produce, compile, and visualize regionally useful information about the future of work, changes, and work-life connections for use by educational institutions and regional guidance organizations. Long-term information on future work and skill forecasting will also be provided to companies and other employers to strengthen regional skill and training cooperation.
The pedagogical models, tools, and training developed for teaching and guidance personnel, as well as other guidance actors, are unique nationwide. They combine perspectives on future knowledge, forecasting, and skill and strength thinking into easily adoptable and usable materials for secondary education and other guidance activities (e.g., TE services, guidance centers, and other TNO services).
In addition to pedagogical models and training, the project will develop several tools, including a novel, gamified “Future Laboratory.” This tool helps users search for and find work-life information and connections, and understand their future career possibilities and skill potential.
The materials will be designed to be scalable nationwide for dissemination and implementation. The project is structured into five work packages:
– Coordination and Communication: Led by Oamk, involving all partners.
– Data Collection and Visualization: Led by TY, involving all partners.
– Training Development: Led by LY, involving Oamk and TY.
– Tool Development and Customization: Led by KAMK, involving all partners.
– Impact Assessment: Led by Oamk, involving all partners.
KAMK’s contribution focuses on data visualization and gamified solutions, with smaller contributions to other work packages. The project’s outcomes include:
– Training for Teaching and Guidance Personnel: Enhancing skills in regional skill needs forecasting, skill identity thinking, work-life opportunities, and multidisciplinary study and career guidance.
– Gamified Tools, Pedagogical Models, and Methods: Supporting skill recognition, continuous learning readiness, and skill identity strengthening.
– Stronger Regional Connections: Between educational institutions, the business sector, and guidance actors to understand future work and skill needs and utilize skill potentials, including matching continuous learning demand and supply.
The new tools and operational models developed will be widely implemented in participating secondary schools, integrated into various educational and guidance activities. The results will be disseminated through events, seminars, and supplementary training provided by the implementers. The project’s results will be published in an easily accessible format on the Open Educational Resources website (https://aoe.fi/) and the Future Guidance website (www.tulevaisuusohjaus.fi).
