Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism

The Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism provides you with the knowledge and skills to manage and develop tourism businesses sustainably. During the studies, you will gain a comprehensive overview of the different aspects of the tourism industry, such as accommodation, catering and program services and event management. You will study the current trends and phenomena in the tourism industry and build a strong competence base for multidisciplinary collaboration in the tourism operational environments. Studying in a multicultural group supports the development of your expertise into a professional for the international tourism industry.

The program is designed as a blended learning format, combining on-campus and online components, allowing students to study while working. Studies will start with orientation days on 15-17 January, followed by contact teaching primarily held during the first week of every month (Monday-Tuesday) in Helsinki, at the campus of Arcada University of Applied Sciences. Please check the requirements related to residence permits concerning part-time studies, in case you are currently not living in Finland. The entrance exam for this programme also takes place in Finland, in Helsinki. In addition to the physical lectures, the studies consist of online lectures, independent learning, group work, discussions and assignments. It is not possible to complete the whole degree online.

At the start of the degree, you will focus on gaining a solid understanding of the tourism industry and its basic concepts after which you will apply the acquired theory into practice. You will learn the essential skills of customer service and team work and learn how to deliver exceptional experiences to travelers. Furthermore, you will become a tourism service provider, developer, and specialist, and equip yourself with the tools needed to succeed in the fast-paced world of tourism. Towards the end of your studies, you will develop competencies in designing and implementing tourism products incorporating sustainability and responsible practices and making a positive impact on destinations and communities.

The degree provides you with the skills and competences to become an expert within the international tourism industry. Tourism graduates work for example in accommodation and catering business, programme services or in tourism marketing and services. In addition, as a graduate, you can also work in other sectors such as a trainer or an entrepreneur.

Student Agreement

All non-EU/EEA citizens selected for English-taught studies leading to a Finnish higher education degree must read and approve a Student Agreement before accepting the study place. The Agreement applies to students who will start their studies after 1.1.2023.
