Kajaani University of Applied Sciences becomes an expert member of the Finnish Defence and Aerospace Industries – PIA

With the membership, Kajaani University of Applied Sciences is part of a strong group of experts that promote and develop topics related to defense and security industries.

Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) has joined the Finnish Defence and Aerospace Industries – PIA as an expert member. The membership opens new collaboration opportunities for KAMK.

– Kajaani University of Applied Sciences can offer expertise for the development work of PIA members. I believe that this collaboration enables new initiatives not only to our research, development, and innovation activities but also for our students. Through PIA, we can reach new partners and opportunities, says rector of Kajaani University of Applied Sciences, Matti Sarén.

KAMK has long collaborated with defense industry companies, the Finnish Defense Forces, and companies developing dual-use technologies. For example, KAMK has developed various learning solutions, participated in equipment testing, and analyzed different data streams. In addition, several student projects and theses have been done on these themes.

The growing defense industry and the development of technologies suitable for dual-use require more professionals and practical expertise in their development and testing.

– Currently, there is an ongoing development project for the Defence Industry Testing Centre to Vuosanka, where products are being tested in the area. This develops Finnish expertise and enables interesting career paths for our students, says Sarén.

Finnish Defence and Aerospace Industries – PIA, is the interest organization for Finnish companies within defence, aerospace and security. PIA’s priorities are promoting the operating conditions, competitiveness, networking and export activities of its member companies nationally and internationally as well as supporting Finnish and European authorities in issues related to overall safety. PIA member companies form an ecosystem of over 220 companies.
