Free-time Activities

At the KAMK, two gyms and a sports hall are at students' disposal free of charge.  The student union KAMO arranges free-time activities to students for example in form of sports club activities, activity days and parties. KAMO International aims at connecting Finnish and foreign students in different free-time activities.

Vimpelinvaara is a popular outdoor leisure and sports area, which is conveniently situated right next to the campus area. There are possibilities for jogging, field sports, tennis, ice-hockey, skating, skiing and even downhill skiing and snowboarding. There is also a disc golf park next to campus. Most of the recreation and leisure facilities are all within walking or cycling distance from the campus area, as is the town centre. If you feel brave, you can try a popular Finnish sport: take a dip in the river through an ice-hole in Onnela, near the city centre! A new swimming hall was opened in Kajaani in November 2013 and it is located conveniently in the city center. The price for students is 4,70 euros.

The Vuokatti all-round holiday and sports resort with excellent opportunities for cross-country and downhill skiing, swimming, hiking, bowling and tennis to name just a few, is only 35 kilometres from Kajaani. Those interested in snowboarding and downhill skiing can take a bus to Vuokatti during the ski-season.

At KAMK, foreign students have a possibility to participate in a friend family programme.  The aim is to offer international students the chance to get to know Finnish culture and language better by pairing participating students with families from Kainuu area.
